Unless you have been under a rock for the past hour or so, you have probably heard that the Detroit Lions have traded TE T.J. Hockenson, a 2023 fourth-round pick, and a 2024 fourth-round pick to the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a 2023 second-round pick and a 2024 third-round pick. The Vikings felt the need to make the trade because TE Irv Smith was being placed on Injured-Reserve as he will be out 8-10 weeks with a high ankle sprain. In this article, we will take an updated look at which picks the Lions currently have in the 2023 NFL Draft.
Which picks do the Detroit Lions have in the 2023 NFL Draft?
Following the Lions' trade with the Vikings, here are the picks (per round) they now have in next year's NFL Draft.
Round 1
Round 1 – Via Rams
Round 2
Round 2 – Via Vikings
Round 3
Round 5
Round 6
Round 6 – Via Broncos
As you can see above, the Lions currently have a total of eight picks in next year's NFL Draft.
What does this mean for the Lions?
The Lions could obviously go in many different directions in the 2023 NFL Draft, but by having four total picks in the opening two rounds, there is no doubt about it that they will have the capital to land one of the top quarterbacks available in this year's cycle.
The question is, will the Lions continue on with Jared Goff as their quarterback or will they select one in next year's draft?
