Detroit Lions WR Jameson Williams divulges what he wants from Calvin Johnson

With the No. 12 pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions, who traded up 20 spots from No. 32, selected WR Jameson Williams out of Alabama.

On Friday, the Lions revealed the jersey numbers for their rookies, and Williams was listed as No. 18.

A day later, Williams spoke to the media before the Lions’ rookie minicamp practice and he explained that though he wanted to wear No. 1 (click here to find out why that did not go his way), he decided he would roll with No. 18, at least for now, because of Calvin Johnson and Randy Moss.

“One reason was Calvin Johnson had 81 and seeing 81, I wanted to flip it,” Jameson said. T
hen Randy Moss had 18 one time. He was my favorite receiver, so 18.”

Williams said that he is looking forward to meeting Johnson so that he can pick his brain about the NFL.

“I’m looking forward to it a lot,” Williams said. “Gold Jacket. Someone I look up to a lot. It’s going to be a blessing. Seeing someone like that, and hopefully, he can give me some of the game and how things run from here.”

Williams, of course, is still recovering from a torn ACL that he suffered in Alabama’s College Football Playoff title matchup against Georgia.

Though Williams was not able to practice on Saturday, he wanted to look the part so he put on his cleats, for the first time since his injury in January.

“I just had to put the cleats on. I ain’t had my cleats on since January. So it feels really good just to be out here with the guys, just football.”

Folks, we may have to be patient as there is a solid chance that Williams is not ready to go by Week 1 of the 2022 regular season. But, when he is back to 100%, look out!
