Report: Former Detroit Piston hospitalized with undisclosed illness


According to reports, former Detroit Pistons forward “Uncle Spliffy” Cliff Robinson has been hospitalized with an undisclosed illness.

Robinson’s family issued a statement confirming that the 50-year-old former forward was being treated at Providence St. Vincent Medical Center in Portland.

“He is grateful for the support of family and friends. We ask for privacy during this time,” the statement said.

Robinson was originally drafted by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 2nd Round of the 1989 NBA Draft. He spent eight seasons in Portland before heading to the Phoenix Suns and then to the Detroit Pistons where he played two seasons.

In his career, Robinson averaged 14.2 points and grabbed 4.6 rebounds per game. He was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year in 1993 and was an NBA All-Star in 1994.
