Detroit Pistons climb NBA power rankings after impressive start

The Detroit Pistons are 5-2 on the year, and have back to back victories in Los Angeles against the Clippers and then last night in Oakland against the defending champion Golden State Warriors.

While it is still very early in the NBA season, some panels are riding high on the Pistons.

While others are still lukewarm on Detroit, it’s safe to say the association took notice.

Whether you’re a believer or not is irrelevant this early in the season, but if Detroit can continue a trend of very strong second halves (they outscored the Clippers 50-32 and the Warriors 63-50 in the second half), the victories will continue to pile up. They are one of three teams with five wins this early, as the Memphis Grizzlies are 5-1 and the Houston Rockets are 5-2.

So obviously enough those two teams I listed are both Western Conference teams, meaning…

With all the questions this summer surrounding Reggie Jackson, Andre Drummond, Stanley Johnson, and even Stan Van Gundy, their hot start is certainly a nice surprise. And the team is even showing flashes of what Detroit’s championship teams were made of.

DEFENSE.

The Pistons stay out west as they prepare for Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram and the rest of the Los Angeles Lakers on Halloween at 10:30 on TNT.
