Detroit Pistons’ early struggles caused by constant injuries

The Detroit Pistons haven’t started their season as planned. Dwane Casey’s guys have four wins and eight defeats right now and are far away from the playoff zone.

Following last season’s playoff appearance, where they lost against Milwaukee Bucks pretty easily, the Pistons aimed to at least repeat the same success. But the way things look, it will be one hell of a task. With all the injuries they are experiencing, and the fact that there are several newcomers, who are yet to make fit in, the future for the Pistons is not bright at all.

Odds on them missing the playoffs this season are sitting at 7/10. Meanwhile, Casey’s crew to enter the postseason are 5/4. So, you can see that the bookies aren’t that confident in Detroit’s abilities. Times when Pistons ruled the Central division, are long gone, and right now, the three-time champs are third in the line to win that assembly with the odds 50/1. Of course, the undisputed favorites are the Milwaukee Bucks 1/10, Indiana Pacers are behind them 11/2. The Chicago Bulls are at 80/1, while the Cleveland Cavaliers sit at 100/1.

The reason for Detroit’s slim chances of making the playoffs are lying in the troublesome health of this crew. Blake Griffin, who is the biggest star, didn’t start the season the way he should, and he already missed a couple of games due to injuries. Derrick Rose is highly doubtful when talking about health, and he, too, already showed signs of vulnerability. Reggie Jackson, who was supposed to be the starting point guard, is out for four weeks. And there are all sorts of minor injuries, which are preventing the players from appearing one or two games in a row. It is something which disturbs Casey’s plans, and believe it or not, since the season began, in 12 games, the Pistons had five different starting lineups.

The only constant in the entire equation is Andre Drummond, who does his part of the job correctly. One of the best rebounders over the past decade and the guy whose impact on Pistons’ results is priceless, is not only the fan-favorite but the brightest spot in their performances. His confidence is at a high level, and it is possible that we see Drummond becoming an All-NBA once again.

Right now, he is 150/1 to win the NBA MVP award, the same as Blake Griffin. As we are already talking about Detroit’s individuals, the bookies see Derrick Rose as one of the biggest favorites for winning the Sixth Man of the Year award. The offer for the former MVP is at 7/1, and there are only two guys ahead of him, the LA Clippers duo, Lou Williams 5/4, and Montrezl Harrell, 5/1. Pistons’ only first-round pick, Sekou Doumbouya, is among the less-probable players to take the Rookie of the Year Award, with the odds 150/1.

All in all, the Detroit Pistons are ahead of one very challenging period.
