Hollinger: Pistons Now Have Better Odds of Reaching Finals Than Cavs

Do you believe that the Detroit Pistons now warrant comparisons to the Cleveland Cavaliers? Both teams seem to be trending in opposite directions, as the Cavs try to figure out their locker room, and Detroit has Stan Van Gundy screaming an infamous battle cry. As great as #FAFW may be, it still is very surprising to see these Pistons not only trending up, but also being raised up by NBA insiders and writers alike.

LeBron hasn’t had a great return to Cleveland and it’s prompting a change in attitudes in their future projections.

Someone who is really seeing the changes in Auburn Hills is John Hollinger of ESPN. Hollinger gave the Pistons better odds (4.4%) than the LeBron James-led Cleveland Cavaliers (1.3%) to make the NBA Finals this year. This all coincides with the impressive wins Detroit has gotten since getting on this winning streak; winning both at San Antonio and Dallas, while also drubbing the Cavaliers as well. Hollinger also gave the Motor City a better chance at winning the NBA Finals than both Cleveland and another star-powered team in Oklahoma City.

For the overall season, Hollinger was projecting a best-worst case scenario for the Pistons in how they would finish out the 2014-2015 season. On the high end, he stated the Pistons would go 54-28 by season’s end. His low estimate for the wall-forming Pistons would be winning a measly eight games to finish the season 20-62. This team clearly isn’t trending in the 20 wins category, but it is really a good sight to see a lot of NBA experts seeing the positive trends here in Detroit. Obviously a 50+ win finish is pretty optimistic, but the fact that this discussion is seriously being had is testament not only to how well this team is playing, but also to the work that Stan Van Gundy has done to turn the fortunes for this franchise too.

This is what we’re after now! #DetroitvsEverybody

Here’s to hoping for a very bright 2015, and a hopeful playoff run to shock the NBA. If Hollinger is right, we might be chanting #FAFW all the way to the Larry O’Brien Championship Trophy.
