The Detroit Pistons made another significant move during the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft, sending veteran big man Isaiah Stewart to the Memphis Grizzlies in exchange for three future second-round draft picks.
The move had been anticipated for weeks, as Stewart’s name surfaced in trade rumors throughout June. On Tuesday night, Detroit officially pulled the trigger, creating additional financial flexibility while continuing to reshape its roster around franchise cornerstone Cade Cunningham.
Pistons Continue Reshaping the Roster
Stewart has been one of the longest-tenured players on Detroit’s roster after being acquired on draft night in 2020. Over six seasons, the physical forward and center developed a reputation for his toughness, rebounding, and defensive intensity.
Last season, Stewart appeared in 58 games, averaging 10.0 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 1.1 assists while shooting an efficient 55 percent from the field and 33.3 percent from three point range.
Although Stewart remained a valuable contributor, Detroit’s front office has made it clear that improving offensive creation and perimeter shooting has become a top priority.

The trade also gives the Pistons additional financial flexibility heading into free agency.
Stewart has two years and approximately $30 million remaining on his contract, with a team option for the 2027 through 2028 season. At just 25 years old, Stewart gives Memphis another rugged interior presence capable of defending multiple positions, protecting the paint, and bringing energy on both ends of the floor.
