There is no question about it, the Detroit Red Wings were the worst team in the NHL during the 2019-20 season and their horrendous record showed that.
Yet, when the 2020 NHL Draft Lottery was held, the Red Wings did not have any luck on their side as they slid all the way down to the No. 4 overall pick (their worst-case scenario)
The hope was that the Red Wings would at least land in the top 3 so they could snag Alexis Lafreniere, Quinton Byfield, or Tim Stutzle but as I said, luck was not on their side.

Now, according to J.D. Burke, he has heard rumblings that the Los Angeles Kings, who have the No. 2 overall pick, are considering selecting D Jamie Drysdale when they are on the clock.
As noted by Ryan Hana, Burke was the first to report that Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman would select Moritz Seider in 2019.

If the Kings were to select Drysdale, the Red Wings would catch a huge break as they could then select either Byfield or Stutzle with the No. 4 pick.
Personally, I believe Byfield goes No. 2 to the Kings and Stutzle goes No. 3 to the Senators, but at least it sounds like there is some hope that one of the two fall to the Red Wings!
