Detroit Red Wings defenseman back at practice, but out for Tuesday

It was a bit of a scary moment when Detroit Red Wings defenseman Trevor Daley went down awkwardly Friday night. He had a strange fluke collision with New York Rangers forward Paul Carey and left the game. It was later announced that he tweaked his neck and was out for the Red Wings’ 4-3 OT loss on Saturday to the New Jersey Devils.

There’s a light at the end of this short tunnel, though. Daley was cleared to practice quickly and was on the ice with the team on Monday. He’s yet to be cleared to play, and will miss their match Tuesday night against the L.A. Kings, but he’s close.

“I would list Daley, as of right now, out for tomorrow,” Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said.

“I got myself in a bad situation, tweaked my neck a little bit,” Daley said. “He wasn’t trying to hit me. I think I more fell into him than anything and just caught myself in a bad situation. It was nobody’s fault other than my own. You seen my reaction, it was a little scary.”

Given that it’s a neck injury, as good as he feels at the moment, Daley wants to take the slow, cautious route to 100%. If all goes well, he should be ready for Detroit’s game Thursday against the Montreal Canadiens.

In 23 games played for the Red Wings this season, Daley has tallied a single assist, 10 penalty minutes and is a minus-4 on the year.
