On Friday, just about everyone in the hockey world was caught off guard when the Tampa Bay Lightning placed C Tyler Johnson on waivers.
The question is, which NHL team will claim Johnson?
Frank Seravalli of TSN seems to think there is a chance that the Lightning had something in place for a team to claim Johnson and that the team could be the Detroit Red Wings.
Tyler Johnson on waivers today seemed to catch some off-guard today. It’s left many wondering if #GoBolts had something in place for a team to claim Johnson (#RedWings?). We’ll see tomorrow at 12 noon ET.

Ryan Hana of The Winged Wheel podcast explains how this could go down and it includes the Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman landing Johnson and another asset.
To clarify, the implication here is this:
– A deal couldn't be made because Johnson wouldn't waive his NTC (or something to that effect)
– DET agrees to claim Johnson off waivers, fully absorbing his contract
– In a separate trade, TBL gives DET an asset in exchange for doing so— Ryan Hana (@RyanHanaWWP) October 10, 2020
