Happy Filip Zadina decision day!

On Sunday, Detroit Red Wings general manager Steve Yzerman will have a big decision to make.

If rookie Filip Zadina plays tonight against the Los Angeles Kings, his entry-level contract will go into effect. If Yzerman elects to send Zadina back down to Grand Rapids (AHL) and he does not play in another game for the Red Wings this season, the start of his contract would be pushed back to the 2020-2021 season.

As noted by Prashanth Iyer, it may be wise for Yzerman to allow Zadina to stay up with the Red Wings and burn the first year of the entry-level contract because Zadina has ‘shown flashes’ of high NHL skill. By doing that, it would allow the Red Wings to bring him to the negotiating table a year earlier before he really gets good and earns a bigger contract.

In nine games with the Red Wings this season, Zadina has one goal and five assists. In 18 career games, he has two goals and seven assists.

Nation, what would you do if you were Steve Yzerman?

Stay tuned!
