According to Red Wings head coach Jeff Blashill (Via Helene St. James), they “made the decision with our eyes open. We were able to see him play a couple of game, we were able to see him practice. We said we were ok with the risk.”
Jeff Blashill on Red Wings waiving G Eric Comrie (claimed by WPG): "We made the decision with our eyes wide open. We were able to see him play a couple games, we were able to see him in practice. We said we were OK with risk" (of losing him).

St. James also added that G Jimmy Howard will get another rehab start in Grand Rapids before likely returning to the Red Wings by Sunday. This means Yzerman will have to call up a “goalie to-be-named to have as a backup Saturday in Toronto.”
Jeff Blashill said Red Wings G Jimmy Howard will play Friday for Griffins. Team will call up goalie to-be-named to have as backup Saturday at Toronto, Howard expected to start Sunday vs. Arizona.

Nation, did Yzerman make a mistake by putting Comrie on waivers in the first place?
