Detroit Red Wings look to extend winning streak against Buffalo Sabres

Tonight, the Detroit Red Wings will play the second half of a back-to-back when they travel to Buffalo to take on the Buffalo Sabres for a 7:00 PM puck drop. Detroit enters tonight’s game riding a two-game winning streak, especially after last night’s big comeback win over the Pittsburgh Penguins. The Red Wings went down 4-0 and came back to win 5-4 in OT. The Wings have 37 points good for fourth place in the Atlantic Division and 10th in the Eastern Conference Standings.

The Sabres currently sit in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 34 points trailing Detroit by three points. The Sabres are currently 11th in the Eastern Conference Standings, right behind the Red Wings.

Tonight’s Starting Goalies

Detroit Red Wings

Tonight’s starting goalie for Detroit will be Magnus Hellberg. Hellberg has only started in one game for the Wings this season. However, last night he came in, in the second period, in relief of Ville Husso, and Hellberg stopped all 19 shots he saw to help the Red Wings mount a comeback and win last night’s game. Hellberg this season is 2-1-0; with the Wings, he is 1-1-0. This season Hellberg has a 1.67 Goals Against Average, and a .924 save percentage.

Buffalo Sabres:

The Sabres will have Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen starting in the net for them tonight. Luukkonen is making his first start since December 19th, a game in which Buffalo won, beating the Vegas Golden Knights 3-2; Luukkonen stopped 41 of the 43 shots he saw in that one.

In his last five starts, Ukko-Pekka is 4-1-0. This season Luukkonen is 5-3-1 with a 3.56 Goals Against Average and a .888 save percentage.
