Detroit Red Wings: What does year two look like for Moritz Seider?

The Detroit Red Wings have a lot to look forward to during the 2022-23 season. The Red Wings saw Moritz Seider, the Calder Trophy winner from the 2021-22 season, make his debut with some force. There’s a lot to be excited about, and in year two, he should likely be trending upwards.

There has been a lot to like with Moritz Seider as he has worked his way towards the NHL level and joined the Detroit Red Wings. As he continues to adapt to the way of the NHL and continue his development, there will continue to be a lot to like with Seider.

The production is likely going to climb, but also his defense and abilities in the defensive zone. He’s going to be someone the Red Wings are able to continue to rely on in the back end. Even with the hopes that Simon Edvinsson will make his mark on the team’s defense core, Seider is going to emerge as the group’s leader.

He’s still green and has time to grow and develop, but the Red Wings are going to see this happen quickly. Especially with the Red Wings starting to come into their own as the 2022-23 season approaches quickly. Seider may be in year two, but he’s going to keep taking strides that make him look like a seasoned veteran.

Detroit Red Wings’ Moritz Seider will show growth in year two.

The Detroit Red Wings are trying to get back to an era where they are a winning team. Get back to an era that the fanbase greatly misses. This is going to start with these younger players starting to solidify their performances and become the proven veterans that the team needs.

Seider earned himself the award for the best rookie performance in 2021-22, where he played all 82 games, scoring seven goals and adding 43 assists for 50 total points. He looked solid in all facets of the game. He was firm in the defensive zone, making plays, being able to start the breakout, and doing what the Red Wings expected.

He was a workhorse for the Red Wings in his first year, and he is only going to continue to be a benefit to the Red Wings organization. As the Red Wings start building for their next big run and a postseason berth, Seider is going to be this team’s anchor in the defensive core.

While some might scoff at mentioning the Colorado Avalanche, look what happened for them with Cale Makar. While Makar is more of a swift-moving guy with less size than Seider, he’s still the young defender the team can capitalize on. The Tampa Bay Lightning or house that was built by Steve Yzerman has Victor Hedman, who mans the blueline as the team’s leader in the defense core.

The Red Wings are hoping Seider keeps moving in that direction. In year two, it’s likely this happens. He’s going to keep moving along and getting better. As Seider keeps settling in, the Red Wings are going to see him make strides.

Expect the defense to continue improving; expect Seider to start becoming a better leader and start moving towards that role. Expect the offense to come again and hopefully see an uptick with the Red Wings scoring more goals. It will drive up the number of goals and points that Seider produces.

The Detroit Red Wings are going to see Seider continue to show growth in year two. It’s going to be an exciting year, and Seider will continue to show improvements.
