JUST IN: Red Wings recall defenseman Dan Renouf from Grand Rapids

The Detroit Red Wings announced a roster move following their 3-2 overtime win over the Wild on Sunday, recalling defenseman Dan Renouf from the Grand Rapids Griffins under emergency conditions.

Renouf, 22, was signed by the Red Wings out of the University of Maine in March of 2016. In 58 games with Grand Rapids, Renouf has 15 points (3 G, 12 A) and a plus-15 rating. He leads the Griffins in penalty minutes (59). His plus/minus rating ranks third on the team and seventh overall among AHL rookies.

Prior to being signed by the Red Wings, Renouf played two seasons with the Youngstown Phantoms (2011-13) of the USHL before attending the University of Maine for three seasons (2013-16). He is still seeking his first taste of an NHL game.

The Wings began a stretch of three games in three nights. They have to now quickly turn around for back-to-back games on the road in Carolina. Monday’s game is a make-up game that was originally scheduled back on December 19, but had to be postponed due the ice cooling system troubles at PNC Arena.

There is a very high chance Renouf finds the ice in any of the next two games, with the team likely to be physically exhausted.
