Chris Chelios, who is currently an executive advisor to Ken Holland, was named as one of the assistant coaches for the 2016 U.S. national junior team for next year’s IIHF World Junior Championship in Helsinki. He will work alongside head coach Ron Wilson.

Chelios is also considered to be in the running for an assistant coaching job with the Red Wings where he would be assisting newly appointed head coach Jeff Blashill. This decision should come within the next week. If Chelios is named an assistant for the Red Wings, he is expected to take over the defense and the penalty kill from Tony Granato. Granato, if re-signed, is expected to switch to working with the forwards.
Chelios brings a ton of U.S. International experience dating back to 1982 and he participated in 4 olympics which makes him a valuable asset behind the bench.
