The Detroit Red Wings have cleared some cap space and have sent defenseman Jakub Kindl to the Florida Panthers in exchange for draft picks. According to George Richards of the Miami Herald, the Panthers get Kindl while the Red Wings get a 6th round draft pick in 2017. Detroit will also retain 15% of Kindl’s salary on the deal ($360k) that runs through next season. Kindl’s cap hit is $2.4 million.

Kindl has been traded to FLA.

Kindl to FLA. Return is a late-round pick and DET will keep some salary.

The move is a bit questionable considering Kindl has been put on waivers multiple times this season and was just placed on waivers last week. Florida could have picked him up for nothing at that point. More details as they become available.
