Red Wings to wear ‘Mr. I’ patch honoring Mike Ilitch

The Detroit Red Wings will be honoring owner Mike Ilitch with a special shoulder patch on their jerseys starting tonight when they host the St. Louis Blues in the first game at home since the longtime Detroit icon passed away last Friday.

In addition to the shoulder patch, the team will also decorate the ice with a special ‘Mr. I’ logo in the neutral zone.

The Grand Rapids Griffins will also wear a sticker on their helmets honoring the Red Wings and Tigers owner.

The Wings are all but out of playoff contention, but that won’t stop the team and their fans from celebrating the life of one of the most important people in Detroit history.
