On Monday, the shocking news broke that the New York Islanders are parting ways with head coach Barry Trotz after the Islanders failed to make the playoffs.

The Islanders came up short of the playoffs after finishing the 2021-22 season with a 37-35-10 record.

Trotz had one year remaining on his five-year contract.

This move comes as a surprise as Trotz led the Islanders to the playoffs in each of his first three seasons in New York.

Under Trotz, the Islanders reached the Eastern Conference Finals in both the 2020 and 2021 seasons before losing to the Tampa Bay Lightning, who eventually won the Stanley Cup.

Nation, do you think Trotz could be the next head coach of the Detroit Red Wings?
