Detroit Red Wings re-sign forward Sam Gagner to new contract

The Detroit Red Wings made a move today, electing to re-sign forward Sam Gagner on a one-year pact.

The deal is worth a reported $850,000.

Gagner was drafted in the first round, sixth overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft. He’s also spent time playing with the Arizona Coyotes, Philadelphia Flyers, Columbus Blue Jackets and Vancouver Canucks.

He was acquired by Detroit at this year’s Trade Deadline from the Oilers in exchange for forward Andreas Athanasiou.

In 844 career games, he’s scored 164 goals with 295 assists.
