According to the Detroit Red Wings, they have signed defenseman Dylan McIlrath to a 2-year extension.

McIlrath, 27, served as an alternate captain for the American Hockey League’s Grand Rapids Griffins this season and appeared in 52 games with the team, posting 10 points (1-9-10) and ranking among team leaders with a plus-13 rating (3rd) and 98 penalty minutes (1st). He also appeared in four postseason games with the team and was a plus-one with 10 penalty minutes during the team’s first-round series loss. McIlrath, who was originally acquired by Detroit on March 1, 2017, in a trade from Florida, made his Red Wings debut in 2018-19 on March 25 at San Jose and went on to appear in seven games with the team, totaling a plus-two rating and four penalty minutes. He has skated in 149 AHL games with Grand Rapids over the past three seasons, posting 31 points (8-23-31), a plus-18 rating and 259 penalty minutes, in addition to five points (0-5-5) and 39 penalty minutes in 28 playoff games. The Winnipeg, Manitoba, native was a member of the Griffins’ 2017 Calder Cup championship team.
