Note: This is an opinion on what could happen if Ken Holland heads to Edmonton. It is not a report.
On April 19th, No. 19 Steve Yzerman returned home to the Detroit Red Wings to become their next general manager.

But I would not be surprised if Yzerman gives up his GM status in the coming days.
On Friday, a report surfaced that Yzerman could soon be bringing in current Tampa Bay Lightning assistant general manager Pat Verbeek to assume the same role in Detroit.
Now, there are reports that Red Wings’ senior vice president Ken Holland has been offered a very lucrative contract to become the GM of the Edmonton Oilers and that the ball is now in his court to take the offer or leave it.

But what if Holland does leave town?

If Holland does take the Oilers GM job, do not be surprised if Yzerman takes over as senior vice president who oversees all hockey operations. If that were to happen, expect for Verbeek to be named as the Red Wings’ new general manager.
Yzerman has made it clear that building the Red Wings back into a Stanley Cup contending team is not something that will happen overnight and I am sure that he will want to be the one calling all of the shots if Holland leaves.
