Detroit Tigers learn their 2019 MLB Draft slot

Well, the 2018 Major League Baseball regular season has come to a close (other than a tie-breaker game between the Brewers and Cubs on Monday). For the Detroit Tigers, it is time to reflect on the season gone by and to look forward to the offseason.

As we know, the Tigers got off to a decent start and they even hovered around the .500 mark for a while. But when all was said and done, they finished 64-98, which put them in 3rd place in the American League Central.

Overall, the 64-98 record was good enough (or bad enough) to land them with the 5th pick in the 2019 MLB Draft. The only four teams to finish with a worse record than the Tigers were the Orioles (47-115), Royals (58-104), White Sox (62-100), and Marlins (63-98).

Here are the teams that will be picking in the top 10. Note: The Braves have the No. 9 pick because they were given a compensatory pick for not able to sign their No. 8 selection in 2018.

Detroit Red Wings will look much younger come Opening Night

The jokes about the median age of the roster of the Detroit Red Wings may soon come to a screeching halt, if the players waived, sent down, and released are any indicators.

We could see up to five new players make their NHL debuts on Thursday night when the Red Wings take on the Columbus Blue Jackets in the season opener. The defense, thanks to multiple injuries, is a much bigger question mark, but coach Jeff Blashill has stated that forwards Michael Rasmussenand Christoffer Ehn will make their debuts for sure. Defenseman Dennis Cholowski is also slated to dress for the game.

On the back end, Mike Green (virus) will still not be ready to play, and there’s no current timetable on his return. Trevor Daley (lower body) is doubtful for the opener as he’s not even been skating with the team.
