Spring training is in full swing now with the full Detroit Tigers roster at camp in Lakeland, Florida. Always a good opportunity for young players to make the team, this year there is an open competition for the center field spot.
Additionally, with the World Baseball Classic coming up soon, there will be even more opportunity for manager Brad Ausmus and his coaching staff to check out some new players. Among those newbies are two new signees the team announced on Monday.
The Tigers announced today that the club has signed INF Danny Muno and OF Matt Murton to minor league contracts.

Daniel Muno, 28, played at the Double-A and Triple-A levels in the minors last season for three different major league organizations, finishing the year with Jacksonville, Double-A affiliate of the Marlins. Overall in 2016, he hit .223 with a .655 OPS. Muno had a cup of coffee in the big leagues back in 2015, appearing in 17 games with the Mets.

Murton, a 35-year-old journeyman, spent the 2016 season in Iowa, the Triple-A affiliate for the Cubs. Prior to that, he spent six seasons over in Japan. He’s played in over 340 games at the major league level with the Cubs, Athletics and Rockies, compiling a career .286/.352/.436 slash line.
