Jose Cruz Jr., who served as assistant hitting coach with Detroit, will be heading back to Rice University to take the position of head coach according to multiple reports.
Former Rice star Jose Cruz Jr, on staff with the Detroit Tigers, will be named the next head coach of @RiceBaseball according to college baseball sources. @BaseballAmerica first to report Rice was close to hiring Cruz.

Cruz Jr. was a three-time All-American outfielder during his years at Rice from 1992-1995, and would go on to play 12 years in the Majors.
