The Tigers took the 2019 season opener 2-0 in Toronto yesterday and look to continue riding the wave from Christin Stewart's tenth inning heroic home run and Jordan Zimmermann’s brilliant pitching performance. Now the team from the ‘D’ looks for an offensive spark and more stellar pitching against the Blue Jays Friday night.

Matt Boyd gets the start while Matt Shoemaker makes his Blue Jays debut. Boyd will be making his sixth career start against the Jays and in two starts against Toronto last season he was 0-0 with a 4.85 ERA with ten strikeouts in 13 innings.

Coming over from the Los Angeles Angels, Shoemaker, limited to only seven starts in 2018 due to a forearm injury, has had career success against the Tigers going 3-1 with a 0.83 ERA in five starts, allowing 21 hits with 30 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings.

Maybe it was opening day jitters on top of the pitching of Marcus Stroman, but Tiger hitters managed only four hits in yesterday’s contest with Miguel Cabrera going 0-4 with three groundouts. Since 2014 the Tigers own a 5-12 record in Toronto.
