It has been a long season for the Detroit Tigers and that was to be expected considering the roster. Players have been called up from the minor leagues and sent back down but one prospect who has not yet made an appearance with the Tigers is outfielder Christian Stewart.
Until now.
According to the Tigers, Stewart has been called up along with pitcher Zac Reininger and catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia as part of the next round of September call-ups. In a corresponding move, to make room for Saltalamacchia on the 40-man roster, the team has transferred pitcher Artie Lewicki to the 60-day DL.

From Detroit Tigers:
“Stewart, ranked the organization’s No. 6 prospect by MLB Pipeline, has been one of the top hitters in the International League this season, batting .264 (117×444), and ranking tied for first with 23 home runs, third with 77 RBI, 67 walks and a .480 slugging percentage, fourth with 213 total bases and tied for fourth with 47 extra-base hits. Since being selected in the first round of the 2015 MLB Draft by Detroit, Stewart has batted .262 (429×1637) over 460 Minor League games, belting 93 homers and driving in 297. This is Stewart’s first appearance on both the 40- and 25-man rosters.”
Stewart certainly has an MLB ready bat, especially in terms of power, but improving in the field is something the young outfielder has to work on if he wants to play the position with the Tigers.

Dear Detroit Tigers: Please make this one jersey change for 2019
Dear Detroit Tigers,
Heading into the 2018 season, us fans knew it was highly unlikely that we would see a winning team. In fact, many of us wondered if we would lead the league in losses. But regardless of what was about to happen, whether you won or lost, we supported you. Sure, it was tough to make it out to as many games as usual, but trust me when I say that we had your back from afar.
Looking forward to 2019, all signs point to another long season, at least in terms of wins and losses, but that is expected in a rebuild. We know there is a process to get back to a championship-caliber team and we are willing to be patient now because we believe there will be amazing celebrations down the road.
Though we promise to be patient when it comes to the product on the field, we have one request that would instantly make the 2019 season and beyond a little better.
