Detroit Tigers CF JaCoby Jones suffers fractured hand vs. Brewers

Bad news for the Tigers.

Unfortunate news from an otherwise great Detroit Tigers game tonight against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Center fielder JaCoby Jones has suffered a fractured hand after being hit by a 90.3 mph fastball in the 8th inning from rookie pitcher Phil Bickford.

What's worse, it's the same injury that cost him most of last season after being hit by a pitch against the Kansas City Royals on August 8.

Detroit Tigers, JaCoby Jones

“As soon as he took the glove off at home plate, when I walked out there, it was not a pretty sight,” manager Ron Gardenhire said. “It was a lot of different colors.”

Tests soon confirmed the injury was once again, a fracture.

“We knew about Jonesie right away. It was ugly. But you’ve got to keep playing,” Gardenhire said.

“I feel bad for JaCoby. He was making strides and becoming a pretty good player and now we lose him….He’ll rebound from this. It’s just going to be a bummer for him.”

So far in 2020, Jones has hit five home runs with a .274 batting average and .853 OPS in 104 at-bats.

This would certainly be a big loss for the Tigers if he misses significant time.
