Detroit Tigers claim two players off waivers

The Major League Baseball offseason is officially upon us and the Detroit Tigers are already making some moves.

On Friday, the Tigers announced they have claimed infielder Brandon Dixon and left-handed pitcher Jose Fernandez off waivers. Dixon comes to Detroit from the Cincinnati Reds, while Fernandez was with the Toronto Blue Jays this past season.

From Detroit Tigers:

Dixon, 26, saw the first Major League action of his career in 2018 with the Reds, appearing in 74 games and hitting .178/.218/.356 with 14 runs scored, six doubles, five home runs and 10 RBI. He also played in 49 games with Triple A Louisville, batting .346/.389/.570 with 28 runs scored, 18 doubles, two triples, six home runs and 23 RBI. In six Minor League seasons, Dixon has hit .261/.306/.430 with 304 runs scored, 131 doubles, 16 triples, 67 home runs and 283 RBI.

Fernandez, 25, made his Major League debut with the Blue Jays in 2018, pitching in 13 games in relief and compiling a 0–0 record with a 6.10 ERA (10.1IP/7ER) and six strikeouts. He also appeared in 44 games between Double A New Hampshire and Triple A Buffalo, posting a 4–3 record with four saves, a 2.97 ERA (60.2IP/20ER) and 65 strikeouts. In 195 career appearances, including four starts, at the Minor League level, Fernandez has an 11–9 record with 24 saves, a 3.55 ERA (276.2IP/109ER) and 266 strikeouts.

With or without Golden Tate, the 2018 Detroit Lions WERE NEVER winning the NFC North

As you know by now, Golden Tate is no longer a member of the Detroit Lions.

Earlier in the week, news broke that the Lions had traded their most consistent receiver over the past 4+ seasons to the Philadelphia Eagles for a third-round draft pick.

The move is one that has come under much scrutiny, especially from some local media members who cover the Lions for a living. Some have said the trade is a sign of the Lions front office waving the proverbial “white flag” on the season, while others have said the move would send a bad message to the rest of the players in the locker room and potentially cause them to “give up” on the season. I am not making his stuff up.
