The Detroit Tigers made a roster move on Sunday, designating outfielder Justyn-Henry Malloy for assignment in order to create space on the 40-man roster for right-handed pitcher Kyle Finnegan.

Malloy, 25, appeared in limited action with Detroit and struggled to find consistent footing at the major league level. During the 2025 season, he hit .221 with one home run, 17 RBI, and a .654 OPS across 104 at-bats. While his on-base percentage (.346) showed some plate discipline, the overall production did not solidify his role in a crowded Tigers outfield picture.
Originally drafted by the Atlanta Braves in the sixth round of the 2021 MLB Draft, Malloy was acquired by Detroit as part of its ongoing efforts to add versatile depth. He has defensive experience at third base, left field, and right field, but never fully broke through as an everyday option.
By designating Malloy for assignment, Detroit now has seven days to trade him, place him on waivers, or outright him to the minors if he clears waivers. The move underscores the Tigers’ continued focus on bullpen stability as they reshape the roster heading into the next phase of the season.
