Detroit Tigers get second player in All-Star Game

We already knew that Miguel Cabrera will be representing the Detroit Tigers in the 2022 Major League Baseball All-Star Game in Los Angeles as he is being honored by Rob Manfred for what he has done throughout his career.

On Friday, news broke that Cabrera will be participating in the All-Star Game thanks to a new clause in the current collective bargaining agreement that allows the commissioner to choose a player from each league based on their career achievements.

According to reports, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred personally contacted Miguel Cabrera to ask him if he would be willing to play in the All-Star Game.

Miggy had no hesitation about saying yes to the commissioner.

“I said it’s a great honor. It was a good surprise.”

“It means a lot,” Cabrera said before Friday’s game against the White Sox at Guaranteed Rate Field. “I’m looking forward to having fun and enjoying the All-Star Game.”

Detroit Tigers get second player in All-Star Game

We now know that a second Detroit Tigers player will be joining Cabrera at the All-Star Game as it was just announced that pitcher Gregory Soto has been selected for the second-straight season.

“It’s something really important for me, for my career, for my family,” Soto said after Sunday’s game. “I feel very excited to be there again and represent my team.”

This is the first time a Detroit Tigers player has made back-to-back All-Star Games since Miguel Cabrera was an All-Star for seven-straight seasons (2010-2016).

So far this season, Soto has 17 saves and a 2.67 ERA in 32 appearances.
