The Detroit Tigers have won 5-straight games, putting them back at the .500 mark on the season. At 16-16, the Tigers are just 2 games out of the final American League wild-card spot and with the MLB trade deadline coming and going on Monday, GM Al Avila has a promise to the fans.
That promise is that the Tigers will keep trying to win.
“We're not really looking to add a big piece and trade away any of our young prospects,” Avila said Thursday. “At the same time, if we add a player that we can better ourselves for next year or this year or in the near future, then, obviously, we have to be open-minded to listen to that. But if that trade is not there, frankly, we like our team, and we'll keep our team together. We'll keep trying to win.”
Avila has been consistent in saying he is not looking to trade prospects to get better in the short term, but he also said it is not out of the question to trade a veteran player to a contender.
At this point, with the Tigers in the mix for a playoff spot, I really believe Avila will stand pat as the deadline passes.
Nation, do you think the Tigers can squeeze their way into the 2020 MLB Playoffs or we being sold some fool's gold right now?
