Detroit Tigers Interested In Signing Gold Glove Third Baseman

The Detroit Tigers have expressed interest in signing free agent third baseman Alex Bregman, joining a competitive group of suitors that includes the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, and Houston Astros. According to a report from Sean McAdam of Mass Live, the Tigers are among the strongest bidders for the 31-year-old star, who has spent his entire nine-year MLB career with the Astros.

Bregman is coming off a solid 2024 season, where he hit .260 with a .768 OPS, 26 home runs, and 75 RBIs. He also earned his first-ever Gold Glove, adding to his already impressive resume that includes two World Series championships and two All-Star appearances.

While the Tigers' interest in Bregman is clear, they may face financial challenges in pursuing the veteran third baseman. As Jon Heyman of the New York Post noted, Bregman could prove to be “pricey” for a Tigers team that is looking to build a competitive roster without overspending.

“The Tigers are interested in star free-agent 3B Alex Bregman, which would give him a chance to reunite with manager A.J. Hinch from their Houston days — and yes, the incumbent Astros are in with an offer,” Heyman wrote.

“Ultimately, Bregman might be pricey for Detroit,” Heyman concluded.

Should Detroit manage to secure Bregman’s services, it would add a proven hitter and elite defender to their infield as they continue their rebuild. However, with several other high-profile teams vying for his signature, the Tigers may have an uphill battle ahead.
