The Detroit Tigers are all about tradition as has been seen by the Old English ‘D’ which has followed the team around through its history. But what you may not have noticed is that the ‘D’ on their cap has not matched the ‘D’ on the uniform.

That will change in 2018 as the Tigers have announced that they are changing the Old English ‘D’ on the uniform to match the ‘D’ on their cap.

Tigers legend and Hall of Famer Al Kaline had the following to say about the change.

“I love the history of our great game and its traditions, and I’m thrilled that we are embracing a singular Olde English ‘D’, as the team did almost a century ago. It was  really sharp looking logo when we started wearing it on our ballcaps in 1968, and that certainly rings true today. I am looking forward to seeing our players wear the unified Olde English ‘D’ this season.”

According to Anthony Fenech of the Detroit Free Press, this will be the first time the Tigers have made a home uniform change in over 55 years and that the primary logo has been worn on the Tigers ballcaps since 1961.

Fenech also noted that the move to make the logos identical on the cap and uniform was something that was just a matter of time.

The move was years in the making: Both the Tigers and Major League Baseball preferred one singular Old English ‘D’ representing the organization, rather than different versions on the hat and home uniform. The move was in plain sight last spring training, when the team wore a version of their newly announced home uniforms in games at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Fla.

What do you think, Nation? Do you like that the uniform and ballcap will match or did you like the uniqueness of having a different logo on each? Personally, I love the move other than the fact they enlarged the logo on the hat.
