The Detroit Tigers won't be going 162-0 in 2022 after all. The division rival Chicago White Sox were able to even their series against Detroit this afternoon with a 5-2 victory at Comerica Park; both teams are now 1-1 on the young season.
Tigers pitcher Casey Mize battled, settling in as the game went on after surrendering some early hits, though the two-run home run from Yasmani Grandal in his final inning of work was a back-breaker; he'd finish with two strikeouts and no walks.
Unfortunately, the Tigers weren't able to capture any of the magic of yesterday's comeback victory despite scoring twice in the 6th inning. It certainly wasn't their afternoon, especially after newcomer Javier Baez was thrown out at home plate after attempting to score on a passed ball with nobody out.

Afterward, Tigers skipper A.J. Hinch liked the effort but lamented the result.
“It's an aggressive mistake,” Hinch said. “It's hard to judge that one, the result of it obviously is not what we want. I like the fact that he read it. It's just – if it would've trickled away a foot further, we're safe.”
Despite the setback, slugger Miguel Cabrera continued his quest for 3,000 career hits, smacking his 2,989th hit in the 9th inning.
The Tigers and White Sox will finish up their series three-game tomorrow afternoon at 1:10 p.m. with coverage on Bally Sports Detroit.
