Justin Verlander has been the Opening Day starting pitcher for the Detroit Tigers for the past seven seasons. That is the second longest streak in team history behind Jack Morris who made 11 consecutive Opening Day starts from 1980-1990.
Will Verlander make it eight years in a row that he is named the starting pitcher to start off the season? That decision will be left up to Tigers manager Brad Ausmus who does not seem willing to give out too much information. The manager did concede that Verlander is being considered for Opening Day.
“Have I determined it? No. If I had determined it, would I tell you? No.” Ausmus said.
Only time will tell if Verlander will make his eighth consecutive Opening Day start, but I can assure you Ausmus already knows the answer. Apparently he would rather play a game of poker with the media than feed them information.
