Offensive struggles have been plaguing the Tigers this season. It has come as quite a surprise to many Tigers fans who were anticipating the bullpen to be the Achilles heel once again this year. Even with the addition of Yoenis Cespedes to an already potent lineup in the offseason, it has not yet translated to consistent offense thus far.
It has been feast or famine for the Detroit offense this year. In fact, they are near the top of the league in two catagories that they would prefer to avoid. Detroit has played 19 games so far where they’ve scored two or less runs. That’s first place in the league. The Tigers are second in the league in another catagory: nine games with eight runs or more. If only they could find a way to spread out those offensive breakout games.
With Detroit struggling to get the clutch hits to score runners social media is starting to respond. The Tigers are trending on Twitter, but, not for the best reasons. The latest Tiger trend on Twitter is this particular hashtag: #TTBDNS. This translates to “Tigers Threaten But Do Not Score” and it has been very popular as of late.

With Victor Martinez now on the 15 day disabled list this trend shows no signs of slowing down. Obviously, the Tigers have a great offensive line up. They just need to play better. It remains to be seen if this is a slump or a symptom of a deeper problem, perhaps in the coaching staff.
