JUST IN: Detroit Tigers tweet congratulatory message to Justin Verlander

He may not have done it in a Detroit Tigers uniform like we had hoped for, but Justin Verlander is finally a World Series champion.

Just before the stroke of midnight, the Houston Astros recorded the final out in the bottom of the ninth inning as they defeated the Los Angeles Dodgers 5-1 in Game 7 of the World Series.

Following the game, the Tigers took to Twitter to send a heartfelt message to Verlander after he was finally able to hoist the trophy above his head for the first time in his career.

Who knows, maybe JV will return to Detroit (where he belongs) in a couple of years and win a World Series with the Tigers.

We can always dream, right?
