Joakim Soria signs 3-year deal with the Kansas City Royals

You know it’s the MLB Winter Meetings when deals are being finalized in the wee hours of the night (or morning). According to ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick, the Kansas City Royals have signed former Tigers closer Joakim Soria. The deal appears to be a 3-year deal for Soria to go back to where he pitched for 5 years to begin his big league career. The Royals expect him to be a setup man or even a starter.

The Tigers were in on Soria until the very end, but it turns out Soria wanted to go back to where it all began for him. Detroit even offered the exact same term, 3 years and $25 million, but they couldn’t land their former closer.

Plenty more can be expected from baseball’s Winter Meetings!
