Detroit Tigers now have No. 1 pitching prospect in baseball

One thing is for certain, the Major League Baseball Draft is a crap shoot.

That's why when the Detroit Tigers selected pitcher Casey Mize with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 MLB Draft, fans were excited but it was not off the charts.

Well, up to this point, Mize has been everything the Tigers (and their fans) hoped for and more and according to MLB Pipeline, he is now the No. 6 ranked prospect overall and the No. 1 pitcher.

In five starts in 2018 (1 in Rookie League and 4 in A+), Mize was solid as he was 0-1 with a 3.95 ERA while striking out 14 and walking just three in 13.2 innings of work.

But in 2019, Mize has been absolutely dominant. He started off the season at Single-A Lakeland where he went 2-0 with a 0.35 ERA before being moved to Double-A Erie. In his first start with the SeaWolves, Mize tossed a no-hitter and overall in his three Double-A starts, he is 2-0 with a 0.95 ERA while striking out 15 and walking just two in 19 innings of work.

Chances are slim that Mize will be up with the Tigers anytime soon, but what he is doing on his journey to the Big Leagues is a reason to be excited.

NOTE:

Joining Mize on the MLP Pipeline Top 100 is SP Matt Manning (No. 48), SP Franklin Perez (No. 71) and INF Isaac Paredes (No. 93)
