Tigers Look to Snap Skid as Series with Yankees Begins
The Detroit Tigers head to Yankee Stadium tonight trying to halt a September slide. First place in the AL Central is still theirs, but after dropping 9 of their last 13 games since late August, the Tigers are looking for a reset against the second-place team in the AL East.
This isn’t the first meeting between these two clubs in 2025. Back in early April at Comerica Park, Detroit took two of three from New York. A repeat performance in the Bronx would go a long way toward reestablishing momentum down the stretch.

Pitching Matchup: Mize vs. Warren
Detroit turns to Casey Mize, who’s been steady through much of 2025. He enters the night 13–5 with a 3.87 ERA and 110 strikeouts in 125.2 innings. Mize’s ability to work efficiently and limit big innings has been a key piece for a rotation that’s dealt with its share of ups and downs.
For the Yankees, Will Warren will get the ball. The right-hander is 8–6 with a 4.28 ERA, but his 153 strikeouts in 141 innings show the kind of swing-and-miss stuff that could give a scuffling Tigers lineup trouble.
Odds:
-Spread: Detroit Tigers +1.5 (-160)/ New York Yankees -1.5 (+135)
–Money Line: Detroit Tigers +135/ New York Yankees -160
-Over/Under: 8.5

Bats to Watch
The Tigers’ offense continues to lean heavily on Riley Greene, who leads the team with 32 homers, 143 hits, and 103 RBIs, and Kerry Carpenter, fresh off a game-breaking three-run homer against the Mets.
The Yankees counter with Aaron Judge, who’s in the thick of another monster season (.321 AVG, 43 HR, 97 RBI). Keeping Judge in check is always easier said than done, but it’s the clear key to any series in the Bronx.
Why This Series Matters
Detroit may have control of the AL Central, but playoff positioning is very much on the line. Falling into a September funk could hurt their seeding, and maybe more importantly, their confidence. Taking games off a high-powered Yankees club would give the Tigers both momentum and a reminder of what they’re capable of heading into October.
