According to the Detroit Tigers, they have designated outfielder Mikie Mahtook for assignment to make room for JaCoby Jones who is back with the team after a rehab assignment.
The Tigers today have returned OF JaCoby Jones from his injury rehab assignment and reinstated him from the injured list. To make room on the 25-man roster, OF Mikie Mahtook has been designated for assignment.

The Tigers now have one week to either trade Mahtook to another team or put him through outright waivers. If he were to pass through waivers without being claimed, he would remain under the Tigers control and they would have the option to assign him to one of their minor league affiliates.

This does not come as a huge surprise as Mahtook has struggled to get things going at the plate. In fact, in 23 at-bats this season, Mahtook does not have a single hit. This comes after a 2018 season where he batted just .202 in 67 games with the Tigers.
After batting .276 with 12 home runs in 109 games in 2017, the hope was Mahtook would be one of the pieces to the puzzle for the Tigers but it was not meant to be.
