Heading into the 2022 season, Tarik Skubal was not supposed to be the Tigers' ace but that is exactly what he has been over his first nine starts.
In those starts, Skubal is 3-2 with an impressive 2.44 ERA and a 1.026 WHIP.
What has really stood out about Skubal is that he has struck out 55 and walked just nine batters in 51.2 innings of work.
One of the main reasons for his success in 2022 is his offspeed pitches, which he has really started to get command of and trust.
From The Athletic:
“I just changed one finger, and that’s really been it,” Skubal said. “It’s been huge to make that one little minor adjustment and have the profile of the pitch completely change.”
“I’m just more confident in where they’re going,” Skubal said. “I have a better idea of where the pitches are going and where they’re gonna end up. … I think that’s what it is. I think I’m just more confident in my pitchability.”
The Detroit Tigers, who are now 18-29, will look to pick up another series win.
