Detroit Tigers players praise Max Scherzer following record performance

If you were able to catch Wednesday night’s game between the Detroit Tigers and the Washington Nationals, you probably went to bed with mixed emotions. Unfortunately, the Tigers wasted another good outing by Jordan Zimmermann as they lost to the Nationals 3-2. But at the same time it was a game that will go down in history books as Nationals starter Max Scherzer dominated the Tigers hitters by racking up 20 strikeouts to tie the MLB single-game record. Though the Tigers lost, we were able to see a perormance that has only happened a handful of times in the history of baseball.

Following the game, some of the Tigers players gave their thoughts on Scherzer’s performance.

Victor Martinez, who went 3 for 4 and was the the only Tigers starter not to go down on strikes to Scherzer, was blown away by the performance.

Tigers manager Brad Ausmus, who has now been part of three 20-strikeout performances, was very impressed.

Even Scherzer had some interesting comments about his record tying night.
