Beau Brieske returns, Tyler Owens heads back to Toledo ahead of Saturday night’s game
The Detroit Tigers are rolling right now—winners of four straight and owners of the best record in the American League at 21–12—but even good teams make moves to stay sharp. And that’s exactly what Detroit did ahead of Saturday’s Game 3 matchup against the Los Angeles Angels.
The Tigers announced that they have activated RHP Beau Brieske from the 15-day injured list and optioned RHP Tyler Owens to Triple-A Toledo.
Brieske Is Back
It’s been a bit of a stop-and-start season for Beau Brieske, who returns to the bullpen after dealing with a minor injury. Before hitting the IL, Brieske had appeared in seven games, logging 7.1 innings, giving up 10 hits, and allowing 7 earned runs with 4 strikeouts. His 8.59 ERA and 1.77 WHIP certainly don’t scream dominance, but the Tigers clearly believe in his upside—and now they’ll get a fresh look at him as the calendar flips to May.
This move gives Detroit a rested arm with big-league experience, something they’ll need as the bullpen continues to be tested.
Owens Sent Down
To make room for Brieske, the team sent Tyler Owens back to Toledo after his brief MLB stint. Owens appeared in two games and tossed 2.0 innings, giving up 1 hit and 1 earned run with no walks and 1 strikeout. He didn’t look overwhelmed—but with the Tigers chasing wins every night, experience and readiness matter.
There’s a strong chance we’ll see Owens back up in Detroit later this season, especially if more bullpen shuffling is needed.
The Bottom Line
The Tigers are making the kind of savvy roster tweaks you see from contending teams—small, smart, and strategic. Brieske gets another shot. Owens heads back to Triple-A. And Detroit keeps pushing forward.
With momentum on their side, this team feels like it’s only just getting started.
