Don’t look now, but it will not be too long before pitchers and catchers report to their respective spring training. Speaking of catchers, according to a report from Complete Baseball News, the Detroit Tigers have signed C Andrew Knapp. CBN reported on Tuesday that the Tigers have signed Knapp to a minor league contract.
Who is Detroit Tigers catcher Andrew Knapp?
Evan Petzold has confirmed the signing and added that Knapp has received an invitation to the Tigers MLB spring training.
As noted by Petzold, Knapp, who is 31 years old, has hit .209 with 13 home runs, 103 walks (11.8% BB) and 274 strikeouts (31.4% K) in 325 MLB games over six seasons of professional baseball. He was originally selected by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 2nd Round of the 2013 MLB Draft.
The Tigers have Eric Haase and Jake Rogers as their top-catching options heading into the 2023 season, while they still hope Dillon Dingler can prove himself worthy at some point in time.
