Detroit Tigers have to avoid trading Tarik Skubal at all costs

The Detroit Tigers are approaching the trade deadline. The latest and “greatest” about the Tigers is all concerning the trade deadline and the pending moves that could happen. Southpaw Tarik Skubal was deemed available, and a name opposing teams could call to target.

As the Detroit Tigers evaluate their options at the trade deadline, trading Skubal has to be among the worst decisions to make. Trading Skubal would be a massive detriment to the direction the Tigers are moving. Giving up on that part of the rebuild and doing away with Skubal would be the worst decision the team could make.

Avoiding a trade that involves Skubal at all costs should be a priority for the Tigers.

While the recent news is that everyone is available and the Tigers are willing to move anyone, Skubal still has to be untouchable. Even when everyone is available, the cost of Skubal has to be so high that no one would be willing to pay.

Even in a horrid season where the team has taken steps back, there is no need to make panic moves. Trading Skubal pushes the team further backward and is a true panic move by the organization attempting to rebuild during a rebuild with an on-the-fly unload. It’s silly and needs to be avoided.

Detroit Tigers trade rumors about Tarik Skubal need to stop.

While it may be a real possibility, the Detroit Tigers may be dumb enough to blow this team up and tear it down. With Al Avila at the helm of things, anything is possible. But giving up on the Tigers and Skubal directly is a horrible idea.

Skubal has morphed into being the team’s ace, getting the job done amid all of the injury issues that have decimated the team’s pitching staff. But, parting ways with Skubal is a horrible idea. Even if the Tigers are going nowhere in 2022.

There has to be hope that things can be turned around; the Tigers can reload ahead of the 2023 season and try to come out of the gates with a much different look than they have shown in 2022. They fell flat on their face out of the gate, and things never got better.

Skubal has been one of the bright spots, and teams are likely calling on him, but moving Skubal is a horrible idea. He is someone who can anchor the staff. Even if he is not an ace long-term, he’s someone who will bring value to the Tigers organization as they continue to move through the rebuild.

Though there may be some intriguing offers out there from teams who want to bring in Skubal, Avila has to resist the urge. Trading Skubal would have more negative effects on this team than positive. Especially with the already meager amount of pitching that the team has.

Hanging onto Skubal and making him the de facto ace is what needs to happen. Hone in on development the rest of the way in 2022, have a great offseason overall, build around Skubal and allow the injured pitchers to return and get after it again in 2023.

There’s no situation where I think the Tigers should move Tarik Skubal unless they are getting Juan Soto in return.
