The Detroit Tigers now know exactly when and where their postseason journey will begin. MLB has officially released the 2025 Wild Card Series schedule, and the Tigers will open on the road against the Cleveland Guardians in a best-of-three series at Progressive Field.

Detroit kicks things off with an early start on Tuesday. Tarik Skubal will take the mound for the Tigers after being held back during the regular-season finale.

The Tigers will be back at it the very next afternoon. If Detroit can steal one of the first two games, they’ll set themselves up nicely for a winner-take-all scenario if needed.

Should the series go the distance, everything will be decided on Thursday afternoon in Cleveland. A few schedule “slide” scenarios exist depending on other Wild Card matchups, but right now, the Tigers are set for another early afternoon battle.
What It Means for Detroit
The Tigers’ late-season struggles forced them into a road series instead of hosting at Comerica Park. That said, manager A.J. Hinch and his club have leaned heavily on pitching depth all year long, and saving Skubal for Game 1 could be the spark they need to flip the momentum.
The Guardians have had Detroit’s number lately, but this series gives the Tigers a clean slate. The task is simple: win two games in Cleveland, and they’ll advance to the ALDS.
