Oh My! Dick Enberg Returns for Tigers-Dodgers Telecast

Michigan native and Hall of Fame broadcaster Dick Enberg will be back home on Sunday to receive a lifetime achievement award, and to return to the television broadcast booth to call the Tigers-Dodgers game.

Here are the details from the Detroit Sports Media press release:

Dick Enberg will be honored as the 2017 recipient of the prestigious Detroit Sports Media (DSM) Ernie Harwell Lifetime Achievement Award on Sunday, August 20th prior to the Detroit Tigers vs Los Angeles Dodgers baseball game at Comerica Park in Detroit.

The award will be presented to Mr. Enberg by DSM President and Fox Sports Detroit Reporter/Anchor Trevor Thompson during an on-field ceremony that will be broadcast live on Fox Sports Detroit, as well as in-house at Comerica Park so that both audiences can be a part of the moment.

The ceremony will take place at approximately 12:30 pm. Afterward, Mr. Enberg will call the play-by-play for the Tigers-Dodgers game broadcast on Fox Sports Detroit.

On a personal note, as a fellow graduate of Central Michigan University, Dick Enberg is someone in the sports industry that I always looked up to. In conversations with him over the years, he has proven to be one of the rare exceptions to the axiom “Do not meet your idol, they will only let you down.”

Other recipients of the DSM Lifetime Achievement Award include Ernie Harwell, Paul Carey, and Ray Lane.

Dick Enberg is more than worthy to be added to that distinguished list.

Thank you for everything, Mr. Enberg. Oh my! Touch ’em all!

  1. THE best overall sport’s announcer across the board. Great at all levels of baseball, NCAA hoops, tennis, pro football, golf, etc! Oh MY!

  2. My all-time fave! My life paralleled his travels. The NFL, the Angels, UCLA basketball, tennis, the Padres and now we are both retired in San Diego. So happy he’s getting the awards and praise he deserves.
