Doomsday Plan: Who would replace Jim Harbaugh if he left?

Current Western Michigan head coach P. J. Fleck

Every school in the country should have P. J. Fleck as a backup, and maybe even a primary, plan for their program. The enigmatic coach that rows the proverbial boat has taken the college football world by storm. This round of the coaching carousel seemed to shockingly pass up Fleck despite numerous job openings seeming like a perfect fit.

Fleck has proven to be a masterful recruiter and motivator. He has already created strong ties to those that aren’t even involved in the Broncos program. The state of Michigan loves this man and it would easily be met with support if this were the option Michigan made. Imagine the potential he would have if he were to receive the helm of the Wolverines program from Harbaugh. The two men carry their enthusiasm in different ways but both have a raw energy and passion that is quite refreshing.

The only viable concern regards what Fleck would do with such a momentous platform. An unproven commodity will always be a risk no matter who it is. I doubt many would feel like this hire would be a reach, but there is always the chance the pressure could be too much for even the most powerful of rowers.

Doomsday Rater: 9/10
